It was the third time when Ana, after she had lost both her previous major finals toJustine Henin 12 months ago and to Maria Sharapova at the Australian Open in Janauary 2008. With this, she has been crowned with world No. 1position.
Tenth seeded, all Spanish team Anabel Medina Garrigues and Virginia Ruano Pascual competed with unseeded Australian CaseyDellacquia and Italian Francesca Shiavone for the Women’s doubles title. In Mixed Doubles Victoria Azarenka (Belarus) and Bob Bryan(U. S. A.) defeated Katarina Srebotnik (Slovenia) and Serbia’s Nenad Zimonjic 6-2, 7-6 (4).
